Grimm Timm

This is a small texture pack override; some ferns, spruce, and basic blocks, along with rabbits and wolves.

The Grimm Timm pack is my first experiment with MC textures, and I stuck to items which appear in the taiga biome.

I also kept the default texture sizes, rather than increasing the dimensions because I wanted to see what I could do with the pixel limitations.

It's a Plaid, Plaid World.

For my second pack, I wanted to do something more visually extreme and make use of the tiling nature of Minecraft's textures. I decided that a world made of textile patterns would be fun to play with and allow for more vibrant colors. The main theme would be plaids, represented through common blocks.

Grass-green Gingham

A continuation of 'Plaid Lad'.

I wanted the grass to keep with as simple a textile pattern and Gingham seems to be a simple yet easily recognizable plaid pattern. This set the base for my world, and it was easy to see how large an impact it made - just having changed the grass. I used it as a "north star", comparing other elements I created against the grass to see if it fit harmoniously within the plaid universe.

A Distant Soil

For my third pack, I set out to learn about the biome-tints and how it's used within the game to change the appearance of the biomes. I found that it applies to grass and to most tree foliage. This made me really want to create a weird tint file and some matching animals. So, alien cows!

Pink grass and dark purple soil contrasting with blue/green space cattle.

Watermelon Vista

As shown here, the foliage tint blends from one to the other between biomes in a gradual manner, and also by elevation.

I gave myself a week to learn about minecraft textures and to try my hand at creating my own. I wanted to see how much I could accomplish in that time frame. I will want to revisit the texture packs at a later time and make a complete one. Stay tuned!
